How does your degree support your career?

I attained a strong foundational knowledge of economics through my AAE major. On top of this, I had the freedom to dive into a wide variety of topics including commodities, natural resources and farm business management. My commodities and natural resources coursework prepared me to understand how and where we choose to build our projects to sell power. Additionally, I regularly work with landowners so understanding the fundamentals of the agricultural industry and farm business management has given me a huge leg up in discussing whether choosing to enter a solar lease will be beneficial to their business.

What drove you to your field?

At UW-Madison, I was most passionate about my natural resources and environmental studies coursework. The clean power industry allows me to combine those passions. Plus, I get to travel all over the country and meet amazing people!

What insight do you have for prospective ABM students?

If you’ve found something you’re passionate about, don’t let fear of failure or imposter syndrome keep you away. Coming from the J-school, I did not originally feel like I belonged in CALS (despite the support of amazing classmates, advisors and lecturers). I even got a D on my first natural resources & energy economics midterm! I work in the energy industry now and love going to work every day. I would not be here without my AAE degree.
