Preliminary report released on economic impacts of on Wisconsin farms reducing nitrogen losses

Since its introduction in 2002, NR151, the Wisconsin State Legislature Administrative Code addressing runoff management has had several updates; the most recent effort introduces new standards and prohibitions intended to reduce nitrate concentrations in groundwater to improve its quality.

Paul Mitchell, AAE faculty and director of the Renk Agricultural Institute, led a University of Wisconsin-Madison team conducting a third-party assessment to evaluate potential economic impacts of the proposed changes. In addition to the resulting white paper, results of the report were shared through a series of webinars hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
