
AAE Professor Nic Parker, together with his colleague Wally Thurman from NC State University, conduct the first study of its kind on the effect of tax incentives on conservation easements. In addition to exploring whether state and federal tax incentives have affected the amount of land donated through easements, they also look at the implications for the quality of land being given. Through their research Parker and Thurman developed a comprehensive tax calculator that will help put a dollar value on the tax advantages for land donors. Their work was recently published in Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.
