We leverage data from a Gallup survey administered daily to a representative sample of US respondents over the past decade to assess the impact of major national events (elections, terrorist attacks, police shootings etc.) on the reported well being of respondents. In particular, we investigate whether partisan affiliation affects the change in responses following these events. Overall, we find that reported wellbeing is remarkably stable, with no detectable association with the respondent’s party, except for in the immediate aftermath of presidential elections.
