We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and undergraduate majors. These are the required components of an application:

  • Online application
  • Statement of purpose (about two pages)
  • Three letters of recommendation (preferably from professors who have had you in class)
  • Transcripts from all colleges or universities
  • Course inventory (math, economics, statistics; see instructions)
  • Graduate Record Exam scores (use institution code 1846; no department code needed)
  • English proficiency exam for international students
  • Writing sample is optional
  • Application fee

Ph.D.   Admit for fall semester only; fellowships application deadline Dec. 15; all others Jan. 15


  • M.S., thesis option - Admit for fall semester only; application deadline Jan. 15
  • M.A., non-thesis option - Admit for fall semester only, application deadline Jan. 15
  • M.A., Resource and Energy Demand Analysis (REDA) option - Admit for summer semester only (first online math/stats review course begins in July; classroom taught courses begin in early September); priority application deadline Jan. 15; final deadline if space is available May 1
